Delete your account and data
Last updated 22 July 2026
This page explains how to delete your Commonkeep account and the data associated with it. Some of it you can do yourself inside the app. Deleting the account itself, including the email address held for signing in, is done by emailing us, and we do it for you.

What you can do in the app right now
Both of these take effect immediately and need no request from you to us.
Leave a household
- Open Commonkeep and go to your household's settings.
- Choose Leave household and confirm.
Your membership is removed, and that household's items, stores, trips, and activity stop syncing to your device and are cleared from it. The household itself keeps running for the members who remain, and the entries you already made stay in its activity log, because the log is a shared record of what happened to a shared list.
Delete a household
- Make sure you are the only member left. Commonkeep has no way to remove someone else, so each other member has to leave the household themselves first.
- Open the household's settings, where Leave household is replaced by Delete household once you are the last member, and confirm.
This permanently deletes the household along with everything in it: every item and the exact line you typed or dictated for it, every store, every shopping trip and the prices recorded on it, every repeating item, and the entire activity log. It cannot be undone, and there is no way to export any of it first.
Deleting your account
Commonkeep does not yet have a delete-account button inside the app. Until it does, email us and we will delete the account for you.
Send an email to commonkeepapp@tallbottech.com.au with:
- the subject line Delete my Commonkeep account, and
- the request sent from the email address you sign in with, so we can be sure the request is yours.
We cannot act on a request sent from a different address, because that address is the only thing that identifies your account. If you no longer have access to it, say so in your email and we will tell you what else we can check.
What happens after you ask
- We acknowledge the request within 7 days, and complete it within 30 days of receiving it.
- Your account and the email address held for sign-in are deleted, so you can no longer sign in and we no longer hold an address for you.
- Your membership of every household is removed.
- Any household where you were the last member is deleted outright, with all of its items, stores, trips, prices, repeating items, and activity log.
- Your display name is removed from households that continue to exist.
What is not deleted
If you shared a household with other people and they are still using it, that household and its lists belong to them too, so they are not deleted. Items you added remain on the shared list, and the entries you made remain in that household's activity log, attributed to an account that no longer exists. If you want those gone as well, delete or empty the household first, or ask the remaining members to.
Ordinary server and email logs may keep a record of the request itself for a short period as part of running the service. They are not used for anything else.
Removing the app
Deleting the app from your phone removes the copy of your lists cached on that device, but on its own it does not delete your account or the data held on the server. Use the steps above for that.
